The project is located at Faliro Bay, along the Athenian coastal front, in direct relation to the sea as its primary spatial and visual horizon.
The museum is conceived as a spatial field between landscape and architecture, combining an internal exhibition sequence with publicly accessible outdoor spaces within the surrounding landscape. The exhibition spaces unfold as an uninterrupted progression, while outdoor areas connected to the park extend towards the roofscape and selected viewpoints overlooking the sea, the Acropolis, and the central courtyard.
The building extends the logic of the existing park, forming a continuous public realm of movement and pause, where roofscape, courtyard, and exterior landscape operate as a unified spatial experience.
Structured by the image of a ship’s prow oriented towards the horizon, the project establishes a clear dialogue between building, landscape, sea, and the urban waterfront.
The design was awarded in the competition and developed through all subsequent design stages.
